About me

Hey there, my name is Denzil Lewis. Welcome to my infinitesimal slice of the internet. This is where I store my writing, thoughts, music, software tutorials, and my art.

I am based in Bengaluru, India. I spent the first 20 years of my life in Mumbai. My ancestors hail from the coastal Mangalore region of Karnataka, India. They fled to Mangalore from Goa, fleeing from the Portuguese inquisition in the 16th or 17th century, or so the history books say. My mother tongue is Konkani but I think in English. I am also fluent in Hindi and Marathi. I would love to learn Spanish sometime in the future.

I am a co-founder at Bhasha.io, an award winning Indian language learning company. I lead the product and content teams at the company. If you are creatively inclined and find language learning to be an interesting area, please hit me up.

In my spare time, I like to read obsessively across the spectrum. I am a heavy Pocket user. In fiction, I like stories in the science fiction, mystery, and horror genres. I love, love, love listening to horror fiction podcasts.

I also love working on computational art (also known as generative art). It involves generating aesthetic geometrical patterns by using math and computer code. I use Processing as my primary tool to get this done.

I am obsessive about music, particularly electronic music. When I was in college, I was deeply into classic rock. I learned to play the drums by listening to bands such as Led Zeppelin, The Jimi Hendrix Experience, Lynyrd Skynyrd, and The Beatles. Somewhere around 2011, my musical tastes started shifting to electronic dance music when I was introduced to Progressive House, Techno, Drum-n-Bass, and Progressive Trance.

I have recently started working on composing my own electronic music and it is a whole lot of fun. At the moment, I am learning how to use Ableton Live, Beathawk (iOS), and a bunch of cool synths. Expect some pieces from me soon. I will be updating them here.
